Checkmate: XIII moves to ENDGAME your KING or Showcase new dramas by the numbers
Hopefully this is not comings as new but Shaw has cancelled the series ENDGAME which is coming to a conclusion next week on Showcase. On the slightly odd news is the encore showing the series will get on Showcase Diva later this year. Cancelling a show concurrent to announcing an encore showing on a secondary channel is a bit strange.
If you wish to see some idea as to why Shaw might have cancelled ENDGAME and decided to keep king the following table might help. king was on Sundays at 9et/6pt (the west coast feed of Showcase is only in SD and might as well just be ignored) which put it up against the likes of Desperate Housewives and Family Guy and the Vancouver local evening news for its 8 episode first season. ENDGAME is on Mondays at 10et/7pt which put it up against Castle, Harry’s Law & Fine Shoes, Hawai’i Five-0, Law & Order : LA/Law & Order Los Angeles, and the national news on CBC and late night local news on various stations of FOX and The CW.
This would include XIII except that after the première of 134 000 viewers there is no data publicly available to include.
If you would like to express your desire for another season of ENDGAME you can go over to saveendgame.com and sign the petition. There are also some fun games to play over on the official site for the show, showcase.ca/endgame
tv by the numbers is more a place to get yelled at and insulted if you don’t tow the party line
tvbythenumbers.com despite its claims to report ratings data is actually a place to cheer and call for and predict the demise of tv shows. Should any fan of a show dare post anything close to a declaration of liking a show on the hit list they will be ridiculed, shamed, and driven away. Their departure will be celebrated. They have educated one more person on the harsh reality of entertainment. They are absolutely fixated on the 18-49 demographic and actively call for the cancellation of shows that skew to people who have finished uni and might have kids now in uni. One of the owners of the site is the worst. He makes the outrageous claims that sensationalise things and encourage the attacks. Sometimes they even attack their readers themselves. All the while saying that they don’t do that.
@ Bill … i answer rhetorical questions.
“What’s more outrageous: (1) assuming a show that draws a 0.6/0.7 rating is cancelled when no new episodes are ordered, or (2) assuming that it’s not cancelled.” Read the rest of this entry »
19 November 2010 : FOX Announces Mid-Season Schedule
Now more than ever the rumours of cancellation are swelling. Lets be really simple about this. The Good Guys is a summer/autumn show. This is NOT the time that FOX announces renewals and cancellations of such shows. It is perfectly normal and expected that there would be no mention at this time. The season finale airs on Friday 10 December 2010 @ 9/8c. If FOX had ordered more episodes at this time it would have made for an extra-large season. A “full season” these years is 20-24 episodes. Episode 18 airs tonight (19 November 2010). Episode 19 is 3 December and episode 20 is 10 December 2010.
Then we await renewal/DVD/cancellation news. In the mean time why not sign the petition to renew the show and tell how much you enjoy it. Some 1300+ people already have. Go to the official forums and tell FOX why you want Jack & Dan to bust more punks. You can also buy the episodes or the complete season from iTunes (USA or Canada).
12 19 May 2010 on FOX and Global – update 17 May
This morning FOX announced the fall 2010 schedule and The Good Guys is in it. There is however some pause for concern. It has been placed in what is well known as The FOX Friday Death Slot, yes that non-covetted time of Friday 9pm. In the words of Tim Minear, “Some of the folks at the network are telling me that Wonderfalls is the best reviewed new series they’ve had in ages – maybe ever. I’m currently sitting on a stack of rave reviews from all over the country from major magazines, newspapers, small dailies, internet sites, etc. They seem to be doing me no good.” The majority of critics are singing praises for The Good Guys along the lines of “best new series of the summer, trumps reality tv”. Having swung back and forth during the pre-production days, mostly due to the forever changing title of the series, i concur. The preview clips (which you can view here) have turned me back on to the series. Not knowing anyone from Dallas it took a bit to get used to the dialect but after that i found myself wishing there were more clips. I spent hours searching the internet for a PREAiR version of the pilot to download – sadly i don’t get full episodes in advance. Tell your friends. Watch the premiere this Wednesday. Watch the encore on 31 May. Episode 2 comes June 7th. Maybe we can convince FOX to move the series from Friday before the fall comes around.
For the fans in Canada you can catch The Good Guys on Global>1 at 8pm (yes, an hour early thanks to a 2 hour Celebrity Apprentice) and then enjoy it again right away at 9pm on FOX.
It is worth the instant repeat viewing. Check your local listings as it may not be on earlier in some time zones.
