dollhouse is a brilliant presentation of what can come from wanting anything and just getting it. When will technology take over? The series stars Eliza Dushku (ANGEL, Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, tru CALLING, The Alphabet Killer, Sex & Breakfast, Bring It On) as Echo / Caroline Farrell, a university student from Los Angeles who felt compelled to expose the animal cruelty at a research lab owned by Rossum Corporation. She was caught in the act but escaped, though more determined to bring down Rossum. Upon discovering human test subjects Caroline attempts to blow up the facility but gets caught in the explosion. In trade for her life Caroline agrees to be one of the test subjects, one of the "dolls" or "actives" for a term of 5 years. The actives have their memories and indeed entire minds stored digitslly and are kept as blank slates until they have an engagement. The actives are then given a "treatment" which programmes them with whatever mental and psychological qualities are needed for authenticity of the engagement. The actives are named after the NATO Phonetic Alphabet, Caroline being known as Echo. After one engagement a treatment doesn't quite take and Echo beings to remember little bits of her life as Caroline and what brought her to be involved with the dollhouse. Echo begins to work at taking down the dollhouse from the inside.

dollhouse's cast also includes Harry Lennix (Pumpkin, Across The Universe), Fran Kranz (Donnie Darko, Orange County, The Village), Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica, Whistler, Cold Squad), Enver Gjokaj (Stone, Eagle Eye), Dichen Lachman (Aquamarine, Neighbours), and Olivia Williams (An Education, X-Men: The Last Stand, Jason and the Argonauts) as the woman who runs the Los Angeles dollhouse.

This pyschological thriller, which was the #132 show in US broadcast of 2008-09 and #131 in 2009-10, is one of the most brilliant works of television the format will ever know.
