CTV's Flashpoint

3 September 2012 on CTV

There seems to be some confusion in places about the fifth season. Some places say it will premiere on 27 September. While that may have been accurate at one time it is no longer correct. Season 5 of Flashpoint will be back on CTV starting on 20 September 2012 at 10pm ET/PT. If you wait until the 27th you will miss one episode. If you are in the US and watch the show on ION you will have to wait a while. ION will be showing the end of season 4 and then looping back to season 1 in late September and early October 2012.

Flashpoint is cancelled effective the end of the now confirmed shortened fifth season. What 11 months ago was a 5th season, 18 episodes, a total of 80, and a going-concern is now a final season, 13 episodes, a total of 75, and the end.

The series has been with us for a long time. Originally developed for CTV, a pilot for Flashpoint (then called Sniper) was shot in 2007. In January 2008, CBS joined on as US broadcast partner before the series began principal photography in the spring of 2008. Flashpoint premiered on 11 July 2008 on CTV and CBS, with 1.13 million viewers in Canada and 8.72 million viewers in the US.

It isn't just that. The co-creators of the series owe their marriage to the show and the show is due to their relationship. Flashpoint also served as the standard for the revival of Canadian dramatic television on a domestic and international level. Call Me Fitz, rookie blue, Haven, king, Copper, The Firm, The Listener, The Bridge, The Kennedys, Sanctuary, Shattered, Endgame, XIII, Combat Hospital, Being Human, and probably a few others owe their existence at least in some way due to the existence and success of Flashpoint. We all knew it had to come some day but it was 11 months ago that they announced the 5th season and it has yet to be on TV and now it is being cancelled. That kinda sucks. The up side is that Mark and Stephanie know this is the end and they are actually working on the script for s5e13 so now is better than a month from now after filming is underway and they realise they had written a cliff-hanger and would scramble to change it and then it might not really work. Better now but we all wish it was never.

... is when the fourth season of Flashpoint resumes. Yes, that is a Monday. And it is rather late in the season for a Canadian show to come on. The new Canadian tv season starts on 29 August, aka Monday next week. What that does align with is the start of the US tv season. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. How long will CTV be kissing the ass of American broadcasters with regards to their most popular domestic show? FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. If there ever was a reason i had to not be happy with Bell Canada Enterprises it is this.

Canadian show + Canadian channel = Abides by American broadcaster's scheduling wishes.

Some how noone else sees anything wrong with that.

8 July 2011 on CTV

Flashpoint season 4 finally premieres on CTV after oringally being scheduled for 17 June. There is a live chat with series creators Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern and series star Enrico Colantoni. Sadly it is being run through CBS & Twitter. As might have been noticed form the articles in the last month this site no longer supports Flashpoint on CBS. As all three of the participants in the live chat are Canadians and they are going through the American broadcaster instead they are all pretty much selling out to the American indifferent interests of CBS at the cost of alienating the domestic audience of this once great Canadian show. Boycot the chat. Tell Mark & Stephanie & Enrico that they are Canadians who work on a Canadian show that has a Canadian audience they are ignoring and that they need to stop pandering to CBS and their attempts to pretty much kill the show. If you want the info on the live chat for later tonight, you won't find it here. I am already rather disgusted with myself for having promoted it as much as i already have in this paragraph.

Flashpoint got a confirmation that its lease on life was ongoing and strong. Weeks in advance of the premiere of season 4 CTV announced that Flashpoint was renewed for a season 5 and that it is to be 18 episodes. There was a big party and all that. What is missing is the shit with CBS. Yes i know CBS has nothing to do with season 5. It is season 4 of which i refer. The nonsense repeat of the season 2 finale at the end of May has resulted in the season 4 premiere in Canada being delayed. Not cool. At all. CBS already forced the displacement of the last three episodes of season 2 of The Listener and though it was renewed there are presently no announced let alone confirmed broadcast dates for those episodes - but they were on in May in the UK. If CTV can renew the show independent of any foreign broadcaster then why can't CTV actually broadcast the show independent of any foreign broadcaster? Letting CBS dictate the broadcast schedule of a Canadian show on a Canadian network is an invasion. And for those really not liking it an act of war. CTV, take a stand and tell CBS NO ! and actually stick to the announced schedule and let CBS be a week behind, Make them squirm for a change instead of abiding by their every whim and demand.

6 May 2011 on CTV and CBS

The remaining six episodes of season 3 are being shown on CBS starting tonight and are being simulcast as repeats on CTV. This is the same time slot that The Listener is in. There are three episodes remaining in season 2 of The Listener and they are being shown in the UK without inturruption but are presently not scheduled for broadcast in Canada. But back to Flashpoint, this is not season 4! Season 4 started filming in February 2011 and will be on tv in Canada and the USA in June 2011.

16 December 2010 on CTV

The remaining six episodes of season 3 have been scheduled on CTV for Tuesday nights starting 4 January 2011. This is the same time slot that Law & Order Los Angeles is in. If LOLA has a new episode then expect Flashpoint to be not on that week. It is a time share. This is not season 4! Season 4 starts filming in February 2011.

From the CTV press releases: Buckle up FLASHPOINT fans! The summer just got hotter as CTV announced today that the Gemini Award-winning series presents a special Season 3 sneak peek episode on Friday, July 16 at 10 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). A quick-hit teaser of a third season locked and loaded with hard-hitting storylines, painful decisions, and Team One’s toughest adversaries yet, the mid-summer primer is a can’t miss target for FLASHPOINT fans. Earlier this month CTV announced the pick-up of a fourth season which will begin production in Toronto for the 2010/2011 season. Following its television broadcast, the Season 3 sneak peek will be available on demand on the CTV Video Player at CTV.ca.

Canada’s most-watched original drama series is back with a bang this summer with the highly anticipated third season of FLASHPOINT, Fridays at 10 p.m. ET beginning August 6 on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). With last Friday’s Season 3 sneak peek delivering 1.3 million viewers, and winning the night, Canadians can now lock their sights on a new season of adrenaline-pumping action that features an array of talented guest stars including Lauren Holly (NCIS), Douglas Smith (BIG LOVE) and Victor Garber (ALIAS). Kelly Rowan (The Good Times Are Killing Me) guest stars in the Season 3 premiere as an estranged mother who abducts her two children.

Well, what can i say? I thought to expand this to coverage of the three hit, uniquie police dramas on TV these days. Starting off with Code 58 / The Five Eight / The Good Guys i got to enjoying keeping an update on what is and what is to come. I expanded into the Canadian show rookie blue not too long ago. Even i was surprised that it was renewed after three episodes. I was even more surprised that it is the most successful original series on Global, ever! I got into Flashpoint some time ago now but never thought to add it into the five eight .com until last night. So far there is an episode list - i took care to make sure it is accurate, what with the CBS airings being all over the place now - but i do not have the New Zeeland air dates. I don't have any press access for Flashpoint from any of the broadcasters, for now, so things will not being coming earlier. But it will be accurate.

The third season had a "sneak peak" on 16 July, mostly thanks to CBS' choice to air that episode before completing season 2's wonky, out of order broadcast in the USA. The next new episode airs on 6 August. It promises to be amazing. It is certainly "must c tv".

Here is a little triva on the numbers for the premiere in Canada between the two shows:
 • rookie blue garnered 88% more viewers than Flashpoint premiere (July 11, 2008)
