    Hi everyone,

since I am new to this site and there is no thread for introductions - or let's say I haven't found one if there is one! :-) - I'd like to take this opportunity to say hi to everybody on here and that I just stumbled over this site and really like it. I love Canadian series, I think the quality in comparison to the quantity of episodes made/aired is much higher than any other country's output. It may be just me, but hey... that's my honest opinion.

I hope I'll be able to provide something you'll be interested in, I wanna browse through all the stuff on here first though in order not to upload anything that's already here AND my upstream is... well... competitive if we're talking about snails, so I'd rather use it for something that makes sense to upload.

Whatever.... about my request: I'd love to see Robson Arms.

I couldn't find it anywhere - much to my surprise if I might say so! I hope this series is okay to post/request, i.e. does comply with your rules!?

Also, I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to get a hold of the unaired episodes of the brilliant show Mr.Sunshine as well as the unaired episodes of the Paul Reiser Show (I was hoping that CTV would keep on airing it since they announced at least one or two further eps, but... well... we know the story)!?!?!? That would be great! I have been checking lots of sources as well as iOffer, but wasn't lucky.

Thanks for listening and considering my requests.

I have a load of stuff, so if anything you need would be among it, I'd be happy to share, just let me know what you guys need.

Thanks for keeping this site running - have a great day!

    welcome.

Robson Arms would be fine. It is out on DVD. Sadly even when i tried to watch the 4x3 crop of it on ctv's stream it failed to find some files. There are DVD and HDTV rips out there. http://orlydb.com/?q=robson+arms I suspect they will be about as hard to find as the DVD rips of Murdoch Mysteries. It took me a year to find someone who had MMs2.

Mr Sunshine had eps held back for September much like was done with Grey's Anatomy s1 and Body Of Proof s1. And then it was cancelled. There is a reason i am proud to say they are AMERICA's Broadcasting Company :P Censoring Happy Endings. Seriously. Maybe if the show ends up on Five USA or another British channel the other episodes will come available.

The Paul Reiser Show was ok. I like his work but not so much that 'Seinfeld style' comedy. CTV will never show episodes of an American show that are not shown in the USA. They just don't do that sort of thing at CTV. A Canadian show that gets delayed or binned by the American broadcaster will be shown. It's a thing about eligibility for tax credits. The pilot of TPRS hasn't even been shown yet. There are 7 eps and NBC+CTV showed i think 3 and 5 and skipped 1 2 4 6 7. Much like with Chaos it is no wonder viewers were confused and turned off.

If any of the above do come available they will likely be added but for now i have none of the requests you made. Sorry. I might get some time this weekend to look for Robson Arms and now that i have file names it should be a bit easier to find.

Well, Robson Arms was the mayor request as I didn't really expect anyone having the unaired stuff and be willing (or able) to share it - so getting Robson Arms would be awesome! Cheers! I really appreciate your efforts and your swift reply.
Thanks for the infos on CTV's "habits". I'm not living in Canada, so I wasn't sure. I think I remember reading that some series' unaired episodes got aired in Canada (not necessarily on CTV though), so I gave it a shot...
Sometimes stuff that GOT aired isn't available anyway, like most Good Dog episodes, so I just tried.
Please let me know if there's ever anything I can provide!
    Thanks again!!!

God Dog had an odd schedule. I channel surfed into episode 11 about a week ago. I might have to ask err0001 about that show because it is still on tv. It is even getting a second season which is being made maybe even right now.

The site is small so we rarely make requests here to each other. Casual viewers such as yourself are for whom the requests section exists. Such as your asking for Robson Arms.

There are some newer shows but mostly we try to avoid the really big shows like House MD, Desperate Housewives, and NCIS. Everywhere has those and you can even pick up the pilots for all three rather easily. I really have this thing for short-lived shows. So i thought why not share some of what i have. I tend to post more North American from the last 10 years or so while Baliman has what seems to be a very interesting collection of Australian shows. One thing we all have in common is appreciation for most Canadian shows. I am rather serious about that. When a Canadian show gets popular enough that it shows up on US tv channels and people start calling it an American show i get really, really, really angry because they are stealing the best of Canadian & calling it American and the rest, which sometimes does suck, they let Canada keep and then point to it as proof that all Canadian tv sucks. There is so much Canadian content on American channels it is too scary for them to admit to so they only speak of Flashpoint and rookie blue.

As for cancelled American shows, it is not just CTV but all Canadian broadcasters will cease any American show which the American broadcaster cancels, even if the show is a hit in Canada and a bomb in the USA. Law & Order Los Angeles / LA (CTV) was huge in Canada and so was The Chicago Code (Global). IF they were Canadian shows they would have received second seasons. Much like The Listener did; it even got a third season which starts production soon. And The Listener failed in the USA like it was an American show on NBC :D (It was on NBC for 7 episodes).

If you have anything to share look around, see if it is here, if not maybe you could upload it. Of perhaps you would want to post a list of what you have. I kind of have that and that reminds me i need to update as it is a few months old but tvtome is a list of what i have. I really should add a "last updated on..." to that page.

Trust me: I know exactly what you mean! I may not have all the info you have, because I'm not exactly one of the locals and I am more than grateful for all the details you've been sharing with me so far (really! that's awesome!), but one thing I have noticed since I've been getting into Canadian shows (or, in other words: finding out that some of the shows I have been enjoying are actually Canadian) and checked out more and more of them, is that (I am the living proof) they
    -are highly underrated
-sometimes get "mis-marketed" in order to give you the impression that it is an US show
-as above, but especially to audiences abroad by labelling it an "American" series. While this is absolutely true, it would also be true if it was a series from Urugay and I am not sooooo sure they'd actually call this an American series. It's just not the whole truth AND
-I have no idea why they are doing this - okay, I'm sure the label "Canadian" would give some US-Americans the idea that it MUST be some lame ass series about people just getting along nicely and not locking their doors or whatever.... BUT I am not sure if there is any justification for doing the same thing in Europe, except the idea that "made in the USA" will make people think that it is the best they can get anywhere...., and switch to 24 featuring a Canadian as the lead!!!!
I can't tell, because it would certainly not scare me off knowing that a series is Canadian or British, Australian or from New Zealand... That being said, I think I have just listed the countries that - in my opinion - come up with really good series, maybe just a limited number of them, but hey... I'd rather watch 5 really great series than 589 crappy ones each season.
Sadly, most other countries fail to concentrate on what they can do best and simply produce shitty wanna be remakes of "American" series (as if I'd need another Lost with the original still running!) instead: for example, there are some really good procedural crime dramas from Germany (mostly from the 70s and 80s) that even got some international recognition and nowadays 99% of the stuff they do not import is utter crap and/or a rip off of some US series. Where's the point in that?
Also, as soon as some foreign country releases something worth watching, what happens? Does it get dubbed and does it air in the US? Naaaah, they'd rather remake it! As we all know a lot of those projects do not get beyond the pilot stage....
I noticed that most Canadian series are harder to locate than US series, I'm still trying to get hold of new episodes a.s.a.p., but - just look at Good Dog - it won't work out at all times. I am confident that the remaining episodes will be available at some point. I'd buy it if it was available.
Maybe it'd be a good idea to name some Canadian series I enjoy(ed) to give you an idea:
The Listener, Corner Gas, Hiccups, Testees, Dan for Mayor, Single White Spenny, InJustice/B-Team, The Bridge, Call me Fitz, Endgame, Almost Heroes (I used to be a comic book fan, err still am, but not that much anymore - i.e. I really like this show!), ReGenesis + more....
..and also The Backyardigans (!) - I know I am too old for this one, but I think it's probably the best show for children (along with Timmy Time) I've take note of in ages and I actually really enjoy watching it while having a cup of coffee in the morning....

As I said, I have a load of stuff (I need to get all my stuff from the net or by buying the DVDs, so I couldn't help but building up a collection) and will browse this site to see what might be worth adding to it and if in doubt ask. I'll check your list also, of course. I have quite a lot of unaired or once-aired-and-forgotten pilots and like you, I have a thing for short lived series, so maybe that would be a good starting point. Somehow, short lived series seem to attract me much more than some series that ran for 18 seasons... I really don't know why that is so, but I like it that way....

Oh my, here I am rambling on... sorry! ...and thanks again!

I watched the 2 1/2 minute promo trailer for Prime Suspect and before those just over 2 minutes were complete i was already figuring out how to compare it to the remakes of other British shows which have been made for/by NBC and which were disasters.

I sometimes joke that when people start saying that Sea Patrol is a brilliant American series the shadow line will have clearly been crossed. The show i used to use was Torchwood. Then Russell Davies moved to LA and BBC was too afraid to do the show without him so they moved the show with him. Insecure idiots. Torchwood kinda is an American show now. But that was announced long ago. I switched to the sure, safe bet that if anyone ever called Doctor Who an American show simply because it is on BBC America then the melting pot has won. Then BBC announced they were going to make 2 episodes in Utah. Fuck!

Why is this so important to me? Five or seven years ago almost every show on Canadian tv sucked. Writing that was boring and predictable. Shows that generally looked a little too much like Wayne's World in Wayne's World. Casting was sometimes brilliant but over half a decade i barely recall a Canadian show from other than This Is Wonderland. Any other good ones were lost on me. I watched almost exclusively American channels. I didn't have The Movie Network so there was no ReGenesis for me. Then a couple of years ago E1 made a few serious moves in their television division. Suddenly this little Canadian company was putting out some shows that were big hits on US channels. The Walking Dead last year on AMC. Others just started pouring out. E1 was no longer making shows solely for Canadian broadcast. Murdoch Mysteries was picked up on a bunch of PBS stations and The Listener set records all over the place for FOX but when it came to North America it was a hit in Canada and a total failure in the USA. The Tudors was another and now The Borgias. Canadian tv was always like the 'minor leagues' because almost all the best Canadian writers, directors, actresses, and editors would move to LA and those who couldn't make it or who didn't want to make it in LA were what was left to staff and cast shows. From that depletion of talent came the resulting shitty years of Canadian tv.

And broadcasters went with it. Why? It is cheaper to buy rights to Desperate Housewives than it is to make the eleventh hour. So the CanCon sucks and fails to draw an audience. Broadcasters use that to show cause to reduce the minimum CanCon requirements. Shows get even worse. Less people watch. Broadcasters use that as proof that CanCon should be reduced even more. Vicious cycle. Look at Citytv's schedule for September. They don't have a single Canadian scripted show which will have new episodes being shown. Murdoch Mysteries is on the schedule but they will be repeats.

Canadian series are harder to find because there is a very strict belief among the groups that release shows that Canadian shows are inherently shit that does not belong. 2HD is one of the most public about that. 2HD is also the group that releases almost all of the Canadian shows that are acknowledged as being Canadian. I can't explain that contradiction. I just know i lost all respect for them when they said everyone who thinks Flashpoint is a Canadian show must be an idiot pot smoker.I have since noticed that when a Canadian show is on a US channel 2HD will always release the show from the US channel, even if the picture quality is shitty, just to prove that rookie blue & Combat Hospital & Flashpoint are American shows by their being on ABC and CBS.

"-sometimes get "mis-marketed" in order to give you the impression that it is an US show" - yeah, Being Human, Sanctuary, skins, and many others are all considered US shows and are released by groups other than 2HD because they can do American shows but they won't release Canadian shows. Some people even consider Durham County to be American even though it is named for a fucking place in Canada that is somewhat infamous for being a major junction for the electricity grid. Even in the face of indisputable facts people still dispute.

InJustice is an American show from a few years ago. Pretty good. I have a thing for the Golden Gate. Injustice is a British show from earlier this year. Both are on the forum. You meant to write InSecurity. You can kind of thank me for that. err0001 released the pilot and the torrent died off pretty quickly. I asked him to seed it so i could get it and re-distribute it. I also got InSecurity included on a few of the more popular sites. Then it started being included everywhere i looked.

There is a blog post with viewership for Single White Spenny and Almost Heroes. I actually like Almost Heroes despite it being about comics. But the numbers are so far down the toilet you wouldn't want the engagement ring back. Enjoy the show while it is on because unless it costs $0.34/ep to make it won't be back for a second season. Either of them. If you are a fan of comics then perhaps you encountered the infamous XIII comics or video games over the years. I haven't but i do enjoy the tv show based on said comics and games.

Testees isn't here. Heard of it but i don't think i ever saw it nor do i recall what it is about.

The Eleventh Hour was a (rare) good Canadian show during that time frame when you thought all Canadian shows blew. :P

Look again. the eleventh hour is one of the shows i mention. I even have a little, bare-bones sub-site for it. Or in other words i think it is a good show. I just happen to only have the third season on VHS. I didn't say ALL Canadian shows blew. The great majority of them certainly did. But not all. Now the great majority of them are actually very good.

I still can't find a single episode of Robson Arms.
