I watched the 2 1/2 minute promo trailer for Prime Suspect and before those just over 2 minutes were complete i was already figuring out how to compare it to the remakes of other British shows which have been made for/by NBC and which were disasters.
I sometimes joke that when people start saying that Sea Patrol is a brilliant American series the shadow line will have clearly been crossed. The show i used to use was Torchwood. Then Russell Davies moved to LA and BBC was too afraid to do the show without him so they moved the show with him. Insecure idiots. Torchwood kinda is an American show now. But that was announced long ago. I switched to the sure, safe bet that if anyone ever called Doctor Who an American show simply because it is on BBC America then the melting pot has won. Then BBC announced they were going to make 2 episodes in Utah. Fuck!
Why is this so important to me? Five or seven years ago almost every show on Canadian tv sucked. Writing that was boring and predictable. Shows that generally looked a little too much like Wayne's World in Wayne's World. Casting was sometimes brilliant but over half a decade i barely recall a Canadian show from other than This Is Wonderland. Any other good ones were lost on me. I watched almost exclusively American channels. I didn't have The Movie Network so there was no ReGenesis for me. Then a couple of years ago E1 made a few serious moves in their television division. Suddenly this little Canadian company was putting out some shows that were big hits on US channels. The Walking Dead last year on AMC. Others just started pouring out. E1 was no longer making shows solely for Canadian broadcast. Murdoch Mysteries was picked up on a bunch of PBS stations and The Listener set records all over the place for FOX but when it came to North America it was a hit in Canada and a total failure in the USA. The Tudors was another and now The Borgias. Canadian tv was always like the 'minor leagues' because almost all the best Canadian writers, directors, actresses, and editors would move to LA and those who couldn't make it or who didn't want to make it in LA were what was left to staff and cast shows. From that depletion of talent came the resulting shitty years of Canadian tv.
And broadcasters went with it. Why? It is cheaper to buy rights to Desperate Housewives than it is to make the eleventh hour. So the CanCon sucks and fails to draw an audience. Broadcasters use that to show cause to reduce the minimum CanCon requirements. Shows get even worse. Less people watch. Broadcasters use that as proof that CanCon should be reduced even more. Vicious cycle. Look at Citytv's schedule for September. They don't have a single Canadian scripted show which will have new episodes being shown. Murdoch Mysteries is on the schedule but they will be repeats.
Canadian series are harder to find because there is a very strict belief among the groups that release shows that Canadian shows are inherently shit that does not belong. 2HD is one of the most public about that. 2HD is also the group that releases almost all of the Canadian shows that are acknowledged as being Canadian. I can't explain that contradiction. I just know i lost all respect for them when they said everyone who thinks Flashpoint is a Canadian show must be an idiot pot smoker.I have since noticed that when a Canadian show is on a US channel 2HD will always release the show from the US channel, even if the picture quality is shitty, just to prove that rookie blue & Combat Hospital & Flashpoint are American shows by their being on ABC and CBS.
"-sometimes get "mis-marketed" in order to give you the impression that it is an US show" - yeah, Being Human, Sanctuary, skins, and many others are all considered US shows and are released by groups other than 2HD because they can do American shows but they won't release Canadian shows. Some people even consider Durham County to be American even though it is named for a fucking place in Canada that is somewhat infamous for being a major junction for the electricity grid. Even in the face of indisputable facts people still dispute.
InJustice is an American show from a few years ago. Pretty good. I have a thing for the Golden Gate. Injustice is a British show from earlier this year. Both are on the forum. You meant to write InSecurity. You can kind of thank me for that. err0001 released the pilot and the torrent died off pretty quickly. I asked him to seed it so i could get it and re-distribute it. I also got InSecurity included on a few of the more popular sites. Then it started being included everywhere i looked.
There is a blog post with viewership for Single White Spenny and Almost Heroes. I actually like Almost Heroes despite it being about comics. But the numbers are so far down the toilet you wouldn't want the engagement ring back. Enjoy the show while it is on because unless it costs $0.34/ep to make it won't be back for a second season. Either of them. If you are a fan of comics then perhaps you encountered the infamous XIII comics or video games over the years. I haven't but i do enjoy the tv show based on said comics and games.
Testees isn't here. Heard of it but i don't think i ever saw it nor do i recall what it is about.
welcome to the five eight, home of The Good Guys and other punk busting shows
