    From The Sky Down

Twenty years after the release of 'Achtung Baby', director Davis Guggenheim's documentary 'From The Sky Down' will open the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Guggenheim (Waiting for Superman, An Inconvenient Truth, It Might Get Loud) charts this groundbreaking album with new interviews, stories and unseen footage from Berlin and Dublin. Now a key chapter in their career, Achtung Baby was, in Bono’s words, 'the sound of four men chopping down The Joshua Tree'.

'In the terrain of rock bands, implosion or explosion is seemingly inevitable, ' explains Guggenheim. 'U2 has defied the gravitational pull towards destruction, this band has endured and thrived. The movie From The Sky Down asks the question why.'

The Toronto International Film Festival® opens September 8 with the world premiere Gala Presentation of From the Sky Down, the first time in 36 years that the Festival has opened with a documentary.

From The Sky Down is a documentary on the making of U2's watershed album Achtung Baby. The working tapes were stolen from the studio and are available as bootlegs from many places. The 12-song album had 7 singles. Probably the most well known song from the album is "One".

    Sarajevo

In the early 1990s journalist Bill Carter was in Sarajevo along with his first-hand, in the streets coverage of the war he also captured what many consider the pinnacle audacity - a beauty pageant in the middle of a war. A plea from the people for a return to normalcy. That slice of time is captured in the documentary Miss Sarajevo

In the early-mid 1990s the great Italian opera star Luciano Pavarotti commissioned Bono to write him a song, any song. Bono had written songs for Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, and Willie Nelson. But this time rather than offering them a song he had written he was being asked to write the song. The song Bono wrote is "Miss Sarajevo".

    Missing Sarajevo

This documentary appears on the DVD release of The Best Of 1990 - 2000. For all that can be said of U2, for all of the Wikipedia articles about the band and their music only one of their concerts has its own article. This one. 23 September 1997. Many people might not think of it but U2 stopped the war, which was mostly over but not totally, not completely and not forever, but long enough to move the stage in, set it up, have the concert, and take down the stage. It reminded the people if only for a day what life without war was like.

    The Road To Sarajevo

This documentary appears on the DVD release of Popmart Live In Mexico City. This one contains a bit more of the interview with Bono. It also contains some of the performance of "Where The Streets Have No Name". And Bono's somewhat famous speech:
"Viva Sarajevo! Fuck the past. Kiss the future. Viva Sarajevo!"

    Miss Sarajevo (the music video)

There are out there 3 officially released videos, one from Lucciano Pavarotti's concert in Modena, Italy, one that makes use of the footage of the Modena performance in combination with documentary footage from Bill Carter, and a performance in Milano ten years later.

This is the video used for MTV and such, with commentary from 'director' Maurice Linnane on the second audio track.

This is the video from Milano on 21 July 2005.
